How Can We Meet Your Child’s Special Needs?
Before the first appointment, our team always takes the time to discuss any special health concerns or medications that need to be taken into account during your child’s first appointment. If needed, Dr. Etessam will communicate with their other health care providers to ensure a safe and effective visit.
In order to help your child have an enjoyable dental appointment, we may ask that parents remain in the room during the visit or to hold their child on their lap, depending on their size/age. One of our top priorities is to reduce anxiety and create a comfortable, friendly atmosphere that they can flourish in.
If your child is emotionally/mentally unable to sit still or has a medical condition that causes uncontrolled movements, Dr. Etessam may recommend sedation dentistry as a safe and effective option. Nitrous oxide is a good choice for mild relief of anxiety during preventive check-ups and other shorter appointments; while hospital-administered general anesthesia may be necessary for more significant special needs cases and/or more extensive needs.
